Providing Advanced Green Technology Marine Products
Marine Services was founded by Mark Silvey, a seasoned maritime vessel management professional, in the early 1970s. Mark had accrued over 10 years of career experience, working on the family's 28' power boat and then the 25' sailboat. Taking care of other boats on the dock, Mark worked for a well known sail maker and then spent 4 years in the US Navy submarine service.
In the 1970s, Newport Beach was well established as a boating community... consisting primarily of private boats and yachts, with less than a dozen commercial fishing operations in the harbor. The demand for quality yacht management was well established - but the private yacht owner, typically a working professional with minimum discretionary time available, was faced with locating, understanding, and negotiating the scope and terms of their yacht maintenance needs with many service providers of unknown experience or quality. Needless to say, most private yacht owners are not equipped with the knowledge or time to engage in piecemeal boat maintenance.
Recognizing the need for a sole source yacht maintenance provider, Mark launched Marine Services as a preventative maintenance based yacht management company devoted exclusively to supporting boat and yacht owners in Newport Harbor. Marks assessment was correct. Over 30 years later Marine Services manages many local vessels on a regular, scheduled basis, working with many clients for more than 20years. Additionally, we have an electric boat repair and maintenance department as well as an in-house canvas shop.
Mark Silvey and the crew at Marine Services understand that a healthy boating community is dependent upon good harbor conditions and legislation sensitive to the needs of the boating public. To that end, Mark has been an integral part of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce since 1979 - currently sits on the Board of Directors, and chairs the Marine Committee. The Marine Committee is tasked with identifying key harbor and boating issues and advocating for the maritime community those codes, regulations, and budget commitments needed to keep our Newport Harbor clean, safe, functional, and fun to use.
Mark sits on the Board of Directors of the Recreational Boaters of California (RBOC) because of his ongoing commitment to protecting and enhancing the interests of recreational boaters in the western states. Other maritime organizations Mark belongs to include:
